Hi,

I think I have the board set where one of the forums is hidden.

But I have a few questions about privacy of the board in general as well:

1.  Is my entire board unviewable by everyone EXCEPT for people who register on MY forum? Or can it be seen by any AIMOO member?
Additionally, can any non-AIMOO member see it?

2. Are the hidden boards visible by any AIMOO member, or ONLY members of MY board?
I don't want to assure members that a board is private and viewed only by members of my board if any AIMOO member or lurker can view it. I want to be sure it is for my board members eyes only, before I tell them that.

At this time, I want to keep the board exclusive and approve people who register. At a later time, I may want to open it up to anyone, but, for now, just want people who I have invited. Is this possible?
I registered under a couple other names and it appears I have to approve beforehand, but I'm not sure. I got messages in my inbox for approval...Does everyone who tries to register have to wait for my approval? That is what I want.

3.  Is it possible to change my name as owner? If not, can I re-register as another name and take the Owner title?

Ummm...I know there's more, but that's all I can think at the moment!

Thanks :)

Warmly welcome to Aimoo! Your enquiries are greatly appreciated.

1. Several kinds of access types for users on Aimoo message boards are provided. Please simply login to your account, access your control panel > manage community > community setting > preference, there you may set anonymous users (non-Aimoo members) privilege to your forum.

2. Moreover, we offer owner/admin the "users access type" under the section: control panel > manage community > security. You may select users access types and other rights (post new topic, reply to topic, post poll, etc) for different kinds of your members which includes moderator, registered member, normal member and Aimoo registered member.

In addition, owners have the option to approve or decline members when registering to your forum. Just access your control panel > community > community setting > preference > 10. Messgae activation when joining community  and there you may also write welcome message which will be send to the new members.

3. Username cannot be changed once you have registered. Owner/admin/moderator icons could be displayed in forums near your username under the section: control panel > manage community > preference > 9. Display owner/admin/mod identification icon.

We suggest you read about our Faq at the bottom of every page with the link http://www.aimoo.com/Support.html to find the answers or please feel free to contact us if you still encounter any difficulities or confusion. It is our pleasure to serve you.

Thanks. Can you please answer the questions individually though? It's just that this is all super new to me so I need very specific simple answers. I know you are fully answering, but it's hard to understand for a newbie like myself. I have ZERO understanding of all this stuff.
Thanks!

So

"set anonymous users (non-Aimoo members) privilege to your forum."

1.  This means I have to set this in order for non-Aimoos to register?
I can't just tell a non-Aimoo to register at my site?

2.   Can any Aimoo members read the boards I have HIDDEN even if not registered on my board?

3.  Do all the attempts at registering require me to approve before they can post on my board?

Additionally,

If I set "Anonymous Users Cannot View Any Posts" I need clarity on who is "Anonymous."

Is "Anonymous" ANYONE including other Aimoo members NOT registered on my board?
Does it mean only members of my board see ANY posts at all?

By the way, There is a mistake in your FAQ's Section, the question, "How do I block anonymous users?

The answer says to go to #20, but it's #19.

1.   Where can I read about what the differences are between "Normal" members and "Registered"

This is all so confusing...

2.  Also, where do I go to read about setting up the chat room? Is that realtime conversing like Instant Messenger?

Yes it is in real time like messenger, though I have only tested it and not actually used it on the aimoo8 upgrade.

Also, in the tool bar when trying to post, the symbol for "link" and the "unlink" is inactive -- why? I was testing the options and wanted to insert a link

Also, when trying to reply, a few other of the symbols go dead as well. Why does this happen? Shouldn't all options be available?

OK  what you need to do is use your mouse and left click and select any written text you want in the advanced editor text box  then the link icon will show, click it and a little box will pop up, fill in the details and off you go.

Everyone should be able to use it.
What happens when you click the chat link?
it might just need activating by aimoo admin. (the admin on here that is not your forum).

Anyone can chat?

Okay, it says an admin has to activate it. How to get one to do this? Does this mean I can set up a chat for the folks on my board, or will anyone be able to get in on it?

Also, is anyone going to be able to ask my initial questions above? I would like to start inviting folks, lol. Even though I have such limited knowledge, I think it would be okay to start up. I just need to know certain stuff...

Thanks for all your help, Karrier!

Ok I can view your front page but not the categories or any topics, so it is restricted for viewing to people who click the join this community link on your homepage and become registered members on your forum.

The chatroom, i guess that the aimoo admin needs to sort that one out.

I have clicked the join this community on your forum and have a message 'please wait for approval' next to the login / inbox links.
you will need to go to your messages / inbox and click the approve member or go to navigation > manage community > members  > approve member for me to be able to view and post.
You do not need to approve me  if you dont want to, i just clicked the join this community so i could tell you what happens.
