Hello, Three weeks ago I started using your free forum and was getting along nicely until this morning my users started getting a floating advertising pop-up that completely destroys the utility of your forum. If this is an effort to crowd free users into moving to paid service, I suggest it will be counter-productive. Instead, at least for me, it will move me to start looking for another forum host. Is this feature intended to be permanent, or is it just an experiment? Deane Jensen deanelj@montana.net

I too, have noticed that floating pop-up. Is this a permanent part of the free forums? It makes it very hard to read the forum, as it floats all over the place. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Yeah, don't mind an Ad here and there, but these floaters mess up potential.

and this is meant to cheer us up. If anybody clicks on those ADs anyway it is because they missed the close button. I haven't been getting many new users at my forum because they come on and the first thing that they see is floating popups over the screen, so they get annoyed and decide not to join because they don't know it is not a permanant thing and will go away after a while. Please do something about this or i may be looking for another forum host.

How much do you make from putting those pop-ups up anyway because it can't be much if anything because from my aspect nobody has clicked on the pop-ups from my forum by DELIBERATE.

Can you please find another option to the floating advertisements????? They are turning my community members off coming, plus there is a bug with those using FireFox which means that when they close it, a white box just keeps on floating around and they can't read anything underneath it.

If they are ppc ads, they won't be generating any extra revenue as I know that everyone on my community at least is refusing to click on them as they are so obtrusive. We don't mind a few extra banner advertisements instead, but we are already considering moving our community elsewhere because of the floating advertisements.

Thank you,

Thea

I've just launched our new website and added in your message boards. The reason I chose your service was taht it was the cleanest one I had found and the advertising (which I have no problem with in general) wasn't invasive. But the floating pop up is both poorly implemented and looks awful. My users will start using the site from September and if the floating advert is here to stay then I'm afraid my only option will be to disable the message board. It's a real shame because i thought I'd found exactly the service I was looking for.

Refreshing several times daily is not really an acceptable way to remove them. As said before - more advertising is ok but not this sort. Please advise if this is to continue so I can plan accordingly.

there is a way to stop these "floating" ads but you need to get nortons anti-virus but if you do it will only stop the ads... so you get a floating "close me" sign, but it is a good option

Yes, they are a nuiscence, and I also use Mozilla Firefox, and it is a kick in the butt. Everyone that goes to my Aimoo board knows about those things, and they complain to me about it. It would be real nice to remove these and use normal pop-ups. That would be much better than these floating things.

Firefox does not handle these ads very well, as I am sure many other browsers don't either. A simple banner would be better. And the "refresh several times" idea isn't very easy to do, as people with dial-up would hate to do this several times. Plus, talk about Aimoo's bandwith usage if everyone were to do this!

I have to join the concensus, here! Pop-ups are familiaar and less troublesome than these infernal ads! It's also annoying to find dummy messages littering every forum! I'm sure that these tactics are detrimental - achieving no more than a bad reputation for the advertisers!! Up until now, I've been very happy with the performance of my board, but I can certainly feel potential members slipping away!

Please find an alternative! The conflicting advice of "ask members not to refresh pages unnecessarily" and "a few refreshes will banish these ads" (not verbatim quotes) simply doesn't help. I fully intend obtaining Diamond Membership, but I'd really like to do so without my board having been sabotaged before it even gets off the ground

Cheers,
Steve

Nice build-in floating advertisment. NEVER seen such annoying advertisements before on boards. It really defeats the purpose of having a forum. Imagine, news will spread about the "great" service aimoo board is providing.

Any chance someone from Aimoo might actually read this thread and bother to offer an answer to the complaints. Ignoring your users/customers is no way to behave.

If you have no intention of removing the floating ads then at least have the good grace to tell us.

Please reconsider these adverts and take the time to answer the comments from your users.

After e-mailing support, several weeks ago, and receiving no response at all, I am in the process of moving everything over to a truly free host at invisionfree. Membership ceased to grow the moment the floating ads appeared, but with the new board we've almost doubled our numbers. That says it all!

The thing is (and this may surprise you) that Aimoo is a business, here to make money, and is likely therefore to prioritise advertsising strategies that guarantee more revenue.
