OK - I don't know how to fix the bug, but I have found out how to approve messages.
First understand you can't do it for your entire forum, you have to do it one category or subcategory at a time, each in turn.
1) Open the category so you can see a list of the threads.
2) Look to the top right and you will see that '
Approve' has been added to the little menu where 'Manage' was in the past. (Right above the names of the last people to post '
Hot Topic, Approve, Manage')
Note: You will only see this if you are the board owner or a moderator in that category.
3) Select the
Approve button and wait a while, maybe a LONG while.
4) Next you will get a box asking if you want to approve all posts.
DO NOT USE THIS, it is broken and will probably result in an error.
So close this box with the X on the top right.
5) You will now have one of two results.
Either a list of messages pending approval, or no list. If there is no list then there are no messages awaiting approval in this category. Close category and go to next one.
If there is a list of posts awaiting approval either
check each one in turn or use the check box at the top left to check all on the screen.
Then use the '
Approve all checked' button on the bottom of the screen.
This will approve only the items on the screen. If more come up after you have approved the ones on screen that's becuase there were more pending than fit on a page. Do it again until all the posts in that category are either approved or deleted.
6) Go to next category and repeat steps 1 through 6 again.

NOTE #1: I don't know of any way to see all the messages pending for your forum in one place. I don't know how to cure this so that you don't have to approve messages. Don't PM me asking, I don't know more than you do.
But ...... If you find a solution to either turning this 'feature' off, or approving all posts on your forum at once, then please let me know.
NOTE #2: To help forum Moderators: Looks help forum moderators can approve any help forum messages for categories we are moderators on..... I have approved all posts in this single category up to this time. JM
