Thank you. I appreciate it. Although, I have to say, I wont be using my messageboard until this problem with the setting of my homepage is sorted out.

If you are using MSIE, check your Privacy settings. The problem that you are describing (changing your home page settings) is being caused by a third party cookie. Internet Explorer allows you to control how these cookies are handled. You should have your privacy level set to at least medium. You may need (or wish) to go higher to prevent this or use custom settings.
I'm sure that most other browsers have similar settings.

Thanks, but I viewed the source for the pop-up ad and it was a piece of javascript which was actually causing the problem :
function MakeHome() { theobj = document.anchors[0]; theobj.style.behavior='url(#default#homepage)'; theobj.setHomePage('http://www.robofind.com/home.html?\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick \n\n\n -YES- \n\n\n To Proceed'+'\t\t\t\t'); }
I've checked, and I can't find any settings which stops automatic execution of javascript functions.
I wouldn't want advertisers on my site who caused such annoyances to my visitors, so I don't know why Aimoo do. It's putting me off using their site again.

To disable the ads pops on your site, you'd better upgrade to the sponsor program. without your supporting , we have to rely on the advertisers. we wish to be understood by you.

But why do you rely on advertisers who cause such annoyance to your users? As I said before, I've got no problem putting up with pop-up ads to get a free service, but I severly object to them changing settings on my computer.
After all, wouldn't it be better to have advertisers who offer something that your users want? Isn't that the whole point? All that's happening here is that your advertisers are annoying me so much, not only will I not read their adverts or buy their products, I'm probably going to cancel my subscription to your site in favour of going somewhere else where the site hosts have enough respect for their subscribers to not allow this to happen.

Hi emilyemily,
I totally understand your point. I do agree that Aimoo should eliminate all intrusive advertising. Actually, to tell you the truth, most hosts that I've seen have some type of "Do you want to set your homepage to whatever?", which leads to a page filled with all junk. I think this practice is evil, and is only better than the hosts that have "Do you want to download setup.exe?" or the dialler programs. One of Aimoo's biggest competitors has worse advertising (spawning pop-up ads). However, I hope you will understand that it's not really Aimoo's choice when they sign up for an affiliate program. I would say that almost every pop-up affiliate program puts spawning/intrusive pop-ups without consent of the webmasters. A webmaster can change programs as many times as they want, but in the end, they'll still get spawning pop-ups (and minimal payment) or get scammed and not be paid at all. Unfortunately, this is the fate of the Internet industry. I hope you understand our view as well. Thanks!

I do understand but it's just unfortunate that such a seeminly small thing can be so annoying. Having to go in and reset my homepage after every visit to my messageboard just isn't something I want to have to put up with and it's a shame because I like the messageboard - it's easy to use, it looks good and the performance is good but this one little thing is really making me not want to use the site any more.
It might sound cheap, but I don't want to spend money on this, and i'm not going to spend money on this because all it is, is a place to chat with friends to avoid bouncing e-mails around all over the place. If there isn't a remedy to this I'll just stop using it and go back to e-mails rather than paying to upgrade my subscription. It's really not worth the money for what I use this for.
Like I said, i'm sorry about this because it's a good messageboard. It's a shame that these affiliate programs don't allow some method of blocking these intrusive advertisers. To be honest, I can't really understand why the advertisers do it because it certainly doesn't encourage me to click on their ads. And even if the search engine they set my home page is any good, i'm *never* going to use it because it was thrust upon me without my consent. If it had just been a little pop-up ad saying 'Use Robosearch, it's good' (or something like that ;-) ) i probably would have tried it, but this way I'm never going to. The advertisers are shooting themselves in the foot really. And unfortunately, this reflects badly on the hosts who allow these adverts on their sites.
Anyway, we could talk about this until the cows came home but it just looks like i'm going to have to find some other way of chatting with friends.
It was nice to be a part of this community, however briefly!
