One thread on our forum has been there 4 months and has 4000 posts.  I posted a thread this morning, and it has 602 posts.  I posted one yesterday which no one was interested in and it has jumped to over 400 posts.  Is there some way that a member could mess with the count?

 put simply, no.

the post counter is controlled by Aimoo software and forum members, forums admins, and even forum owners themselves have no control over it. There is a problem with the stats not working correctly at the moment though, and it's been reported to the main Admins.
