The owner of our site had invited us to download emoticons, he said to go to the "customize" button on our page....I don't find a "customize" feature anywhere......is it a Mac problem?

No. When you use the advanced editor for repl.y or post a new topic, you will see the smiley button at the second row. Click it and save any of them you like.
