Aimoo has varied member titles, this gives the owner of an Aimoo community the ability to set permissions (what members can and can't do like inserting images / viewing certain areas of their community) to different membership status.

Owner
Super Administrator (Sadmin)
Administrator
Moderator
Advanced
Normal
Guest

Owner: An Owner is the person who has set up a community (also known as a forum or a board) and has total control over that community.

Super Administrator (Sadmin) : A Sadmin has near total control of a forum (excepting deleting the forumor transfering a forum)

Administrator:  Has less control of a forum then a Sadmin but the same level of control of members as an Owner or a Sadmin.

Global Moderators have been given permisions to moderate the whole community and not just certain categories / sub categories.

Moderators  can be given permissions to moderate either the whole of your community (Global Moderator) or just categories or sub categories, you need to add moderators manually, (moderators have the ability to ban a user).

Advanced Members  -  Can be given permissions above normal users Example being: permission to upload images / files to the forum)

Normal Members  - Can be given permissions above aimoo members (example being: permission to view certain categories)

Aimoo Users  - Aimoo users are members of aimoo who have not joined your community (you have to be a member of aimoo to join a community)

Anonymous / Guests - are people who are not logged in but are viewing.

The image below gives an insight into the permissions settings that an owner / Sadmin / Administrator can set in their community.

This really doesn't explain what ADVANCED members can do verses what NORMAL members can do. What is the difference?

They are just two user titles we provide for forum owner/admin to set different privileges whatever they like. If you go to your control panel > forum management > main setting > permissions, you will see the options given there for different users including moderator, advanced members, normal members, Aimoo users and guests. Select any privileges for them. It's all determined by forum owner or admins.

I just figured this out..
You can choose what you want Normal users can do vs What you want Advanced  users
can do. Maybe you dont want Normal memberrs to have the option of deleting or edit post vs good trusted member
you would be glad to give them that option.
You as a Administrator ~ Choose.

You can just keep everyone at normal member and allow them limited or unlimited privilages

I Gave all my regular members from my old msn group The Advanced Members

And any new ones, who I don't know yer.. I made them normal with a few restrictions.

Betya go to your member list. Each name has a check box beside it. Find the person you want to change and check the box beside the name. Look at the bottom of the member list. You will see a selection box that says Admin. If you click the little arrow it drops down and shows all of the membership classes. Select Admin and Submit. That will change her.

The owner is the one who created the site, has all the powers and can do anything on the site, and there can only be one. Admins are people promoted by the owner to assist in the running of the site and their level of access is controlled by the owner. They can do pretty much anything, depending on the settings the owner puts in place.

I think there's a more in depth piece on this in the FAQ section but my PC is having a sulk at the minute and I can't find it, sorry.

Glad this question was here as I was just asked if a member could be upgraded ... the thing is though I am having all members able to do the same so it doesn't really apply in my group yet ... although, who knows how that may change in time.  Who can say!

Thankyou

I don't think this is quite true Dev.  The Owner cannot set different permissions for the Administrator.  They can do anything the Owner can do except to change Skins.  Please correct me if I am wrong and if so, where do I set their Permissions.

Many thanks.

Babs, you are correct. There are no permission settings for the Administrator.

I`m still a little confused as to just how much power an advanced member has.Can they delete an owner or administrator or just general stuff on the boards .Can they delete any members this is my concern and doesn`t really specify those categories.
Thanks for your help

An advanced member has no 'powers'. You can allow them as much or as little permissions as you want in your Permissions settings, but they cannot delete any members, admins, or owner. In fact, they can't access YOUR control panel. Only you and your forum Administrator (whomever you designate as your Admin) can access your control panel.

Ooops...I 'cut' instead of copied the last reply!

I understand about all the permissions each of the different levels are allowed but I didn't seem to find anything that would allow a moderator to 'moderate' other members.

Should there be 'abuse'  do the moderators have automatic access to delete disruptive posts..or edit them?

Can 'advanced' be given that privilege ?

I can only see about them having the ability to edit their own posts...

I am presuming that owner and admin can edit all members posts

BTW...I am sure you are really busy right now so I appreciate all your help and I find it a great forum...Thanks

Okay
I upgraded a few members to moderator status. According to the FYQ which list the capabilities of a moderator, and from what I am reading here, is outdated, they should be able to move, delete posts...etc.,

What exactly can a moderator do without upgrading the status to Administrator. Can an admisistrator ban the administrator/owner. Sorry but we just went through a simular situation at MSN. Sorry I just don't want to make a fool out of myself. Can someone please find out what is correct and what is not? Also how a moderator goes about doing these things.

Here is what I sent my moderators:
I have you all set at the Privilege level.
    <input id=PopdomTagID1 title="Post Message" type=checkbox CHECKED value=1 name=PopdomTagID1> Post Message<input id=PopdomTagID2 title="Reply Message" type=checkbox CHECKED value=2 name=PopdomTagID2> Post Reply<input id=PopdomTagID3 title="Move Thread" type=checkbox CHECKED value=3 name=PopdomTagID3> Move Thread
    <input id=PopdomTagID4 title="Move Message" type=checkbox CHECKED value=4 name=PopdomTagID4> Move Message<input id=PopdomTagID5 title="Delete Thread" type=checkbox CHECKED value=5 name=PopdomTagID5> Delete Thread<input id=PopdomTagID6 title="Delete Message" type=checkbox CHECKED value=6 name=PopdomTagID6> Delete Message
    <input id=PopdomTagID7 title="IP/Email/Name Banning" type=checkbox CHECKED value=7 name=PopdomTagID7> IP/Email/User Banning<input id=PopdomTagID8 title="Edit Thread" type=checkbox CHECKED value=8 name=PopdomTagID8> Edit Thread<input id=PopdomTagID9 title="Edit Reply" type=checkbox CHECKED value=9 name=PopdomTagID9> Edit Reply
    <input id=PopdomTagID10 title="Lock Thread" type=checkbox CHECKED value=10 name=PopdomTagID10> Lock Thread<input id=PopdomTagID11 title="Empty Trash" type=checkbox CHECKED value=11 name=PopdomTagID11> Empty Trash<input id=PopdomTagID12 title="Stick Thread" type=checkbox CHECKED value=12 name=PopdomTagID12> Stick Thread
